ProPigmentRx Intimate Bleaching System Protocol

 

The ProPigmentRx Intimate Bleaching System is a professional corrective treatment designed to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation affecting intimate, high-friction and body areas.

This system includes chemical exfoliation, spicule resurfacing and pigment-regulating actives. It should only be administered by licensed professionals who are trained in chemical-peel safety and are operating within their state’s scope of practice.

This protocol does not replace foundational chemical-peel education.

Approved Treatment Areas

The system may be used on external, keratinized skin, including:

• External bikini and pubic areas
• External perianal skin
• Inner thighs
• Underarms
• Neck
• Knees and elbows
• Other external areas affected by friction-related discoloration, PIH or uneven tone

Do not apply inside the vaginal or anal canal, on the labia minora, urethral opening, mucosal tissue, open skin, the face or décolleté.

Mandatory Client Consultation and Skin Analysis

A thorough skin analysis must be completed before treatment. The provider should assess:

• Fitzpatrick skin type
• Treatment area and skin thickness
• Cause and pattern of discoloration
• Barrier integrity
• Current irritation or inflammation
• History of PIH or hypopigmentation
• History of keloid or abnormal scar formation
• Current medications and topical products
• Previous peels, laser treatments, waxing or other procedures
• The client’s ability to follow preparation and aftercare instructions

The number of layers, amount applied, processing period, treatment frequency and use of additional resurfacing must be determined from the skin analysis and the skin’s real-time response.

Sudden, unexplained, symptomatic or rapidly changing pigmentation should be medically evaluated before treatment.

Contraindications

Do not perform this treatment on clients with:

• Pregnancy or nursing
• Active bacterial, fungal or viral infection
• Active genital herpes or a current herpes outbreak
• Open wounds, cuts, abrasions, fissures or suspicious lesions
• Active dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rash or severe irritation
• Recent waxing burns, razor burn or depilatory irritation
• Sunburn or recent significant UV exposure
• Severely dry, dehydrated or impaired skin
• Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient
• History of poor wound healing
• Uncontrolled diabetes or another uncontrolled medical condition affecting healing
• Current or recent isotretinoin use without medical clearance
• Use of medication that significantly affects healing or photosensitivity without appropriate clearance
• Recent laser resurfacing, surgery or another aggressive treatment in the area
• Unrealistic expectations or inability to follow aftercare

Use additional caution with clients who have a history of PIH, hypopigmentation or keloid formation.

Patch Testing

A patch test is recommended at least 48–72 hours before the client’s first treatment.

Patch test the products on a small area near the intended treatment site. Do not proceed if the client develops persistent burning, swelling, blistering, welts, excessive redness or prolonged irritation.

Repeat patch testing when treating a new body area, after a significant change in the client’s health or medications, or following a product reformulation.

Pretreatment Preparation

Higher Fitzpatrick skin types and clients with a history of PIH may require two to four weeks of pigment-regulating and barrier-supportive preparation before treatment.

Unless otherwise directed by the treating professional, clients should:

• Discontinue retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs and other irritating actives approximately five to seven days before treatment.
• Avoid depilatory creams for at least seven days before treatment.
• Avoid excessive heat, friction and sun exposure before treatment.
• Arrive with clean skin and no deodorant, fragrance, lotion, oil or occlusive product on the treatment area.

 

Professional Treatment Protocol

1. Prepare and Document

• Confirm that intake, consent and contraindication screening have been completed.
• Document the Fitzpatrick type, treatment area and condition of the skin.
• Take standardized before photographs with the client’s permission.
• Put on gloves and prepare cool water, gauze and clean towels before beginning.
• Treat one defined area at a time.
• Do not leave the client unattended while Step #1 or Step #1.5 is on the skin.

2. Cleanse

Cleanse the treatment area thoroughly with a gentle, professional cleanser. Remove all oil, perspiration, lotion, deodorant and product residue.

Rinse completely and pat the skin dry.

3. Degrease and Protect

Degrease the external treatment area with the appropriate professional peel-preparation solution.

Allow the skin to dry completely.

Protect mucosal borders, openings and highly sensitive areas with an appropriate barrier ointment. Do not permit the treatment products to migrate onto internal or mucosal tissue.

4. Apply Step #1 — Professional Peel Solution

Apply a small amount of Step #1 in one thin, even layer using gauze, a cotton-tipped applicator or another controlled application method.

• Do not saturate the skin.
• Do not allow the product to drip or pool.
• Do not repeatedly overlap the same area.
• Begin conservatively during the client’s first treatment.
• Do not pursue visible frosting on intimate or high-friction areas.

Step #1 is an endpoint-controlled peel. There is no universal processing time appropriate for every client or every treatment area.

Monitor the skin continuously.

Acceptable responses may include:

• Mild tingling
• Mild warmth
• Slight, uniform erythema
• Temporary tightness

Immediately remove Step #1 if the client experiences:

• Increasing or intense burning
• Sharp or localized pain
• Any response that appears excessive for the client’s skin

Once the appropriate controlled endpoint has been reached, thoroughly remove the product with cool water and clean gauze. Continue removing until no product residue remains. Pat the skin dry and reassess before continuing.

Do not proceed to Step #1.5 if the skin displays excessive erythema, persistent burning, blanching, swelling or another adverse response.

5. Apply Step #1.5 — Strawberry Spicule Treatment

After Step #1 has been completely removed and the skin has been reassessed, apply a small amount of Step #1.5 in a thin, even layer.

Using gloved fingertips, gently work the product into the external treatment area with light, controlled pressure.

• Do not scrub aggressively.
• Do not use enough pressure to create abrasions or pinpoint bleeding.
• Adjust the amount of pressure and duration according to the treatment area, skin thickness, Fitzpatrick type, sensitivity and immediate response.
• Use a more conservative technique on first-time clients, reactive skin and higher Fitzpatrick skin types.

Mild prickling or tingling may occur. Intense burning, sharp pain, excessive redness, swelling or visible skin injury is not an acceptable endpoint.

Once the provider-determined endpoint has been reached, rinse Step #1.5 thoroughly with cool water. Remove all visible residue and pat the skin dry.

6. Apply Step #2 — Professional Corrective Serum

Apply a thin, even layer of Step #2 to clean, dry, external skin.

Allow the serum to absorb. Do not apply it to internal tissue, mucosal areas or visibly compromised skin.

A bland, barrier-supportive moisturizer may be applied after the serum has absorbed if appropriate for the client.

Do not occlude the treatment area unless specifically indicated by the treating professional.

7. Complete the Service

• Reassess the skin.
• Document products used, application amount, number of layers, skin endpoints and client response.
• Take post-treatment photographs when appropriate.
• Review written aftercare with the client.
• Provide Step #3 with individualized home-use directions.

Step #3 Take-Home Corrective Serum

Step #3 is intended to support pigment regulation and continuity between professional treatments.

The client should begin Step #3 24 hrs  post-treatment and continue to use for 28-30 days 1-2 times a day on clean skin 

Home-use directions:

• Apply a thin layer to clean, dry, external skin once daily.
• Do not apply internally or to broken, irritated or freshly shaved skin.
• Do not combine with additional exfoliating acids, retinoids, scrubs or other aggressive products unless directed by the treating professional.
• Reduce frequency or discontinue use if persistent irritation develops.
• Keep the bottle tightly closed, refrigerated and protected from light.

The provider may modify frequency according to the treatment area, client tolerance and corrective plan.

Expected Post-Treatment Response

The client may experience:

• Mild warmth or tingling
• Mild redness
• Temporary tightness or sensitivity
• Dryness or light flaking
• Temporary darkening before shedding
• A prickling sensation following the spicule step

Visible peeling is not required for the treatment to be effective.

The client should contact the provider for:

• Increasing or persistent pain
• Blistering
• Significant swelling
• Weeping, drainage or crusting
• Spreading redness
• Signs of infection
• Persistent inflammation
• Unexpected lightening or darkening

Aftercare

For at least 48–72 hours, or longer if the skin remains sensitive, the client should avoid:

• Sexual intercourse involving friction against the treated area
• Strenuous exercise and excessive sweating
• Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and very hot baths
• Swimming pools and other potentially irritating water exposure
• Tight clothing and unnecessary friction
• Deodorant, fragrance or perfumed body products on the treated area
• Shaving, waxing, sugaring or depilatory products
• Scrubbing, exfoliating gloves or abrasive washcloths

For approximately five to seven days:

• Cleanse gently using lukewarm water.
• Apply a bland, fragrance-free moisturizer or barrier-supportive product as needed.
• Do not use exfoliating acids, retinoids, scrubs or aggressive corrective products.
• Do not pick, pull or manually remove flaking skin.
• Use broad-spectrum sunscreen on treated areas that may be exposed to UV light.

Treatment Series and Maintenance

Treatment planning must be individualized.

A typical corrective series may include three to six treatments performed approximately four to six weeks apart. Clients with higher Fitzpatrick skin types, a history of PIH or slower recovery may require six to eight weeks between treatments.

Never repeat the treatment until the skin has completely recovered.

Maintenance treatments may be performed approximately every eight to twelve weeks or as determined by the client’s pigmentation, contributing factors and homecare compliance.

Results are gradual and vary according to the cause of pigmentation, friction, hormonal influences, treatment consistency and homecare.

Application Amounts

ProPigmentRx does not assign one universal amount for every treatment area.

Use only enough product to create a thin, controlled and uniform layer. The required amount will vary depending on:

• Size of the treatment area
• Skin thickness
• Skin condition
• Product absorption
• Number of areas treated
• Provider technique

The skin should never be saturated, dripping or heavily coated.

Storage and Shelf Life

All components of the Intimate Bleaching System should be:

• Refrigerated or kept in a climate controlled environment 
• Protected from direct light and heat
• Kept tightly sealed
• Protected from contamination
• Never frozen

The shelf life of ProPigmentRx professional products is 12 months when stored as directed. After one year, effectiveness and potency may decline.

Discard a product sooner if there is an unexpected change in color, odor, texture, consistency or packaging integrity.

Training, Forms and Service Pricing

Purchase of the system does not replace professional chemical-peel education or certify a provider to perform services outside their legal scope of practice.

Providers are responsible for maintaining their own client intake, informed consent, photography consent, treatment records and aftercare documentation in accordance with applicable state and local requirements.
